Find Everything You Need From The Different Car Insurance Articles

Thursday, October 6th, 2011

Decisions can be made wisely or haphazardly. A wise consumer knows what is needed to make a wise decision. They know that the right information makes them able to see all angles and know what they need to check. They know that if it requires them to go through all the car insurance articles, they would go through and learn as much info as they can.

Others may see it as a waste of time. They think that there is really no point in comparing one from the other because they are all the same. But, that is not the case. Even if they provide similar services, there will always be differences that sets them apart from each other. This might make one more suitable for you than the other.

It might have all started when you were buying a vehicle. This could have provided you all the information you needed when you were deciding which was better. And it also would have given you the information when it comes to what your responsibilities are, as an owner.

Paying for coverage is one of those responsibilities. This is what you must get right after you own a vehicle. This is like a net that could catch you when needed. Whether the kind of help you need is financial or legal, the right kind of coverage should be of great help.

Laws vary. It depends on the territory. You might have initially planned to just buy a vehicle and not get a policy because it is not that important. But, looking more closely at that situation might have shown you that driving without coverage does not only penalize you through fines, but it could be more harsh than that.

This would also show you the different kinds of coverage to choose from. When you are still in the process of selection, it is important that you understand yourself and your needs. This is the best way that you can narrow down all your options. Then, you will only be left with those that would be most suitable for you.

You could understand it more. Reading the brochure may be simple. But, when it comes to the agreements and the details, it might look like a foreign language. Your research would be able to give you a way to learn the basics. You would also find useful tips to avoid being scammed.

Reading through car insurance articles is just one of the things that you can do for your search. Deciding on which one to get is not at all that easy but it is possible. After you do your research, you just need to do a bit of legwork and find the best kind of coverage you should get.

Business Van Insurance

Monday, September 5th, 2011

Van insurance is a lot more complex than you would think.

Vans have many different uses and so they also come in many different guises, such as – flat beds, tippers, cherry pickers, chassis cabs, panel vans, luton vans, transit vans, single cabs, double cabs, etc. etc. And these all present different risks to an insurer.

Cover for Business Use

It’s not often a van is bought for purely personal tasks like social, domestic and pleasure purposes, so most insurance companies will not provide insurance other than a commercial vehicle policy to cover a van. This doesn’t mean you cannot have a policy with SDP cover, just that it will be added to a commercial policy rather than being available in it’s own right. It is also worth noting that there are some significant differences between commercial vehicle insurance policies and your usual SDP personal policy for your private motor car.

For instance, fully comprehensive motor policies always used to include an extension so the policyholder could drive other cars. However, this was only ever an extra thrown in to create value, and is not always automatically included. In fact, this extension is being slowly phased out and will not be widely available soon. In the case of insurance policies for vans and other commercial vehicles, the driving other vehicles extension isn’t available at all.

If a van needs cover for more than one driver, insurance companies offer “any driver” policies. although “any driver” applies to those who have clean driving licences and history. A driver with any points or claims would still need to be named on the policy, and this would naturally increase the premium due.

Drivers ages

As you would expect, the younger a driver, the more you will pay whether on a named or any driver basis. On an any driver policy, ages can be limited to any driver over 21, over 25 or over 30, with the latter being the cheapest.

Van Modifications

After purchasing a vehicle, a company will often adapt it for it’s own purposes. For instance, ply lining the interior, changing the number of seats, or fitting a tail lift. In the case of ply lining most insurers will not alter the premium one way or the other, although some will want to know. A tail lift is slightly different in that it is a fixture attached to the van, so if you have fully comprehensive insurance, you can potentially claim for this if it is accident damaged. However, you must declare it to your insurer, and also make sure the cost of the lift and the van combined are included in the sum insured. It is also worth noting that a tail lift is described as a fixture, not tools or equipment – these have to be insured separately.

The seating arrangement is also something that is often customised when a van is purchased. The intention being to add or remove seats as necessary. An insurer will always want to know if you have changed the seating configuration, as the number of passengers you may carry at any time, has a direct effect on the risk an insurer perceives. Adding extra seating must be done to a known standard for the insurer to accept the risk, therefore, this job has be done professionally by someone with the relevant recognised qualifications, such as a main dealer. It cannot be done by the policyholder, and to prevent this, Insurers will frequently want to see evidence such as a main dealer’s receipt for the work done. If you can’t afford this, really you need to buy a vehicle with the right number of seats to start with. If you are removing seats, there usually isn’t a problem.

Sometimes a van might be modified to make it more personal, such as adding fancy alloys or spotlights, or sign writing the vehicle. Either way, the insurer should be notified, and believe it or not, the premium will not always be increased. In the case of alloy wheels, theft is more likely, so a premium would increase, but a van with sign writing on the side is very distinctive, so is less likely to be stolen, and therefore might qualify for a reduction in premium.

The long and the short of it is:

* Whatever type of commercial vehicle you have, there will be an insurer out there who can cover you * If you have any doubts or questions about anything – talk to your insurer.

Stop your Van being Stolen

Sunday, September 4th, 2011

Cars are so secure these days, thieves are now turning to commercial vehicles. In fact, two vans, the transit and the sprinter are both now in the top 10 most stolen vehicles, the ford now actually taking the not so coveted number 1 spot. So if you have one of these vehicles, you may want to take extra care.

There are a few things you can do to help mitigate the risk, starting with where you leave your vehicle. Parking it down dark empty streets at night, or back alleys, is a no no, as this is the kind of place where it is most likely to be taken from. Thieves are known to dislike well lit and frequented areas as they are more likely to be disturbed in action.

If you have a garage, this is a good place to keep your van when not in use, as it provides additional security in the shape of further locks for a thief to get by. Although it is recommended that garages are alarmed, as once a thief gets in, they are hidden from view and have all the time in the world to break into and remove your vehicle.

Make your van more secure. The more security you fit to it, the harder and more time consuming it will be to take, and the greater chance of getting caught. Thieves prefer easy targets so they may decide to leave your van and take someone else’s. Extra security makes a difference. It also makes a difference to your van insurance company as well, so it can pay for itself.

Remove your load from your van when you park it up at night. Vans are often stolen for their contents as well as themselves, or both, as things like tools can be sold on at a good price as well as the van or it’s parts. This is something van insurance firms are aware of, so they often require you to empty the vehicle each night, and may turn down a claim, if it wasn’t.

Clear all valuables from sight, including parking change. Remember thieves aren’t the brightest people in the world, otherwise they would have well paid jobs. Some of them will steal just about anything. And remember to stow away your sat nav unit, as it is far less likely to be taken if it can’t be seen, (after all, who knows it’s actually there?) and your van is less likely to be damaged by an opportunist thief.

Make sure you secure your van each and every time you leave it. Many thieves take any opportunity that presents itself. An unlocked van is a very easy target and the crime can be committed very quickly, so even those who leave their vehicle for two minutes can and do end up regretting it. Also, what ever you do, never leave the keys behind. Some unfortunate people do this and then regrettably learn that there is no cover when a vehicle is taken with the keys.
